Having kids changed everything, except one friendship

The friendship between Susan Gregory Thomas, left, and Jackie Christy has thrived for three decades, even though their lives have taken different paths. Jackie is single and doesn't have kids while Susan is a married mother of three, ages 10, 7 and 2.A decade ago, I had an instant, molecular transformation with the birth of my first child. My world was alchemically recast in that moment when I stared into my daughter's eyes, and so was everything in it. Except for one essential friendship.
